Hi, I'm Irene ~ founder, formulator, and chief maker of Fawn Lily Botanica. I create small-batch botanical skincare for skin that's sensitive, mature, and changing, the kind of skin the beauty industry so often overlooks. Every serum, balm, hydrosol, and salve is formulated and handcrafted by me in our Oregon warehouse, using proven plant actives and time-honored botanical traditions.

My promise is simple, and it's the one I couldn't find anywhere else when I started: skincare that's truly natural and genuinely effective. No synthetics, no harsh extras, and no false choice between gentle and results.

Nearly three decades in the making

I've been formulating herbal recipes and botanical skincare for over 25 years. Over that time, my recipes have been published in national magazines, blogs, and journals (including Willow and Sage, MaryJanesFarm, the NAHA Journal, EarthFirst Journal, Farming Magazine, Amaze Magazine, Eugene Magazine, and Mountain Rose Herbs), but the work I'm proudest of is quieter: the formulas that have helped real people find calm, balanced, healthy skin again. I'm not a lab or a corporation. I'm a formulator and maker who blends the traditions of herbalism with modern, research-backed actives, so you get botanicals that are both gentle and proven.

The roots of Fawn Lily

My love of plants started early. I grew up on a "hippie" homestead on the Oregon Coast, where natural foods and remedies were simply how we lived. My father is a naturopathic chiropractor and my mother a health-conscious vegetarian, and both were passionate gardeners. They were passionate about gardening, and eating whole, natural, and organic foods. We grew most of our own food organically, kept beehives for honey, caught wild salmon and steelhead, canned and preserved food to enjoy all year, went mushroom picking in the fall and winter months, harvested fruits and berries throughout the spring and summer, and reached for herbal remedies before anything else ~ when a cold came on, my dad would hand us a bottle of echinacea and goldenseal tincture rather than head to the pharmacy.

This early introduction to natural living paved the way for my life-long interest in natural remedies and local, organic food. 

That upbringing shaped everything. It taught me that plants are powerful, that nature and wellness belong together, and that what you put on your skin matters as much as what you put in your body. Fawn Lily Botanica grew straight out of those roots.

The beginnings of Fawn Lily

After high school, I moved to Eugene to study Environmental Studies at the University of Oregon.  It was during this time that I realized my own interest in herbalism and felt especially drawn to learning about natural body care.

I had always struggled with having dry, sensitive skin, and had a difficult time finding products that didn't irritate my skin. I purchased my first herbalism and natural cosmetic books when I was 18, and began the adventure of learning how to make soap, lip balm, lotion, shampoo, and other natural cosmetics.

I found employment at various health food stores and outdoor stores during college, and after graduating, began working for Mountain Rose Herbs ~ a national herbal products distributor. I delighted in the variety of organic herbs, spices, teas, and botanical ingredients readily available at my fingertips and began building up a small herbal apothecary in my home and building upon my herbal knowledge.

After 16 plus years of studying herbalism and testing recipes on myself, family, and friends, I finally began Fawn Lily Botanica in 2012. My focus was always to create gentle, balanced, and effective cosmetics which truly honor the powerful properties of botanicals. You may notice that our formulas don't smell as strong or give the squeaky-clean feeling that you may be used to from other lines ~ that's intentional. Our products are intended to be extremely gentle and beneficial for all skin types, and to be free of the harsh and synthetic ingredients that are often present in other cosmetics.

Altogether, I have worked within the natural products sector for almost three decades, and have have had the incredible opportunity to attend numerous herbal conferences and work directly with and learn from many of the world's leading herbalists.  

Where botanical tradition meets modern research

So much "natural" skincare asks you to choose: gentle but ineffective, or effective but harsh. I built Fawn Lily to refuse that trade-off. I formulate with proven, research-backed actives like bakuchiol (nature's retinol, and the heart of our bestselling Bakuchiol Botanical Facial Serum) alongside nourishing, barrier-loving botanicals, so every product is both kind to sensitive skin and genuinely results-driven. Everything is made in small batches, by hand, so I can hold every formula to my own standard. Herbal infusions are made in-house using traditional methods. And every ingredient earns its place ~ there are no fillers, only pure, active, intentional botanicals.

What we stand for

Everything I make rests on a few commitments: truly natural formulas, free from synthetics and harsh fillers; organic, sustainably grown, and ethically harvested ingredients of the highest quality; and small-batch, handmade care rather than mass production. Much of my inspiration comes from the wild botanicals of the Pacific Northwest ~ the valleys, woodlands, meadows, and mountains I've loved my whole life. I personally struggled with finding products for my dry + sensitive skin for years, so while I formulate for a broad range of skin types, sensitive, mature, and changing skin is always closest to my heart.
