These sustainable and natural sea sponges are so luxurious! Perfect for lightly exfoliating skin, cleansing dirt, sweat, impurities, pollutants, and dead skin cells for fresh, glowing skin. Plus, they naturally contain beneficial minerals from the sea ~ calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, and iron ~ nourishing your skin with every single use.

Sustainably harvested from the Caribbean, this variety of natural bath sea sponge is often referred to as a "grass" sponge ~ soft, porous, and wonderfully absorbent, creating a rich, creamy lather with even a small amount of soap or body wash. Gentle enough to use in the bath or shower daily, yet with just the right amount of natural exfoliation. And because each one grows naturally in the ocean, there's a beautiful variation from sponge to sponge ~ some soft and pillowy while others have a bit more texture and firmness. Every sponge is entirely unique, exactly as nature intended.

Responsibly harvested and a naturally renewable resource, these natural sea sponges are hand-cut by divers who leave the base completely intact so the sponge can fully regrow. Studies show that sustainably harvested areas actually increase sponge population density over time. Biodegradable and compostable at the end of their lifecycle ~ no landfill, no microplastics.

Why Natural Sea Sponges are Better Than Plastic Poufs

Plastic mesh poufs and synthetic bath sponges shed microplastics with every single use ~ tiny plastic particles that wash directly onto your skin, down your drain, and into waterways. Not only do the plastic-derived products cause environmental pollution and consume a lot of natural resources to produce, but they have to be thrown away at the end of their lifecycle. Once in a landfill, they continue to break down and contribute to micro-plastic contamination in our soil, water sources, and oceans. Researchers have now found microplastics in the human brain and bloodstream, with links to hormone disruption and serious health concerns.

Natural sea sponges are a renewable resource, and they are so much better for our environment and bodies. Unlike silicone scrubbers, plastic poufs, and synthetic bath sponges, they contain no synthetic materials, no microplastics, and nothing your skin didn't ask for.

Sustainably Harvested from the Mineral-Rich Ocean

These natural sea sponges are a Caribbean "grass" variety, sustainably hand-harvested by multi-generational diving families who have worked these waters for generations. Each sponge is carefully hand-cut by divers who leave the base completely intact so the sponge can fully regenerate ~ a genuinely environmentally friendly process that has sustained these marine ecosystems for centuries. Studies have shown that sustainably harvested areas actually increase sponge population density over time, making every purchase an active contribution to a renewable marine ecosystem.

Each sponge is nourished by the minerals of the sea ~ calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, and iron ~ naturally present in every sponge and beneficial for your skin with every use.

Gentle to moderate exfoliation ~ with beautiful natural variation.

These Caribbean grass sponges provide gentle to moderate exfoliation ~ and because each one grows naturally in the ocean, there's a wonderful variation from sponge to sponge. Some are soft and pillowy, ideal for the most sensitive, delicate, or reactive skin. Others have a bit more texture and firmness for a more invigorating cleanse. Compared to a loofah, which is considerably more abrasive, a natural sea sponge is softer, gentler, and better suited for daily use and sensitive skin. For a more consistently exfoliating experience, we also carry Gulf of Mexico sponges, luffas, ayate washcloths, and body brushes.

Tip: do you have a sponge texture preference? Simply include a note at checkout ~ softer and gentler, or firmer and more exfoliating ~ and we'll do our best to handpick a sponge that meets your needs

Natural sea sponges are free from artificial dyes, synthetic chemicals, and preservatives ~ making them a gentle, natural choice for sensitive, dry, mature, and barrier-compromised skin. Suitable for all skin types and all ages. And when they reach the end of their lifecycle? Simply compost them. No landfill. No microplastics.

Psst ~ not sure which sponge is right for you? We carry a full line of sustainably harvested natural sea sponges in every texture, size, and origin ~ including premium unbleached Gulf of Mexico sponges, whole Caribbean sponges, wool sponges, and silk facial sponges. We've also written a complete guide to help you choose ~ linked below.

Choosing your size:

Sponges are measured at their widest point when wet ~ they expand once submerged in water, so they're always larger in use than they appear dry.

Small/Medium ~ approximately 4~4.5 inches across when wet. A great starter size, easy to hold and maneuver, and perfect for children or those who prefer a more compact sponge.

Large ~ approximately 5~6 inches across when wet. Our most popular size for adults ~ enough surface area to lather efficiently without feeling unwieldy in the hand.

X-Large ~ approximately 6~7 inches across when wet. A generous, enveloping size for those who love a big, luxurious lather and a more indulgent experience.

XX-Large ~ approximately 7~8 inches across when wet. Our biggest and most indulgent option ~ truly special if you love a large sponge.

Tip: if you're unsure, most adults find the Large to be the sweet spot. Heights vary naturally from sponge to sponge (approximately 2~6 inches) ~ every sponge has its own unique character, which is part of what makes each one so special.

Since these sponges grow naturally in the sea, each sponge is unique in shape, size, and appearance. As you'll see in the photos, the sponges can vary quite a bit in appearance - no two are exactly the same!

Please note: These sponges are "cut" ~ meaning they have been shaped and sized for convenience and affordability. For whole, uncut premium options including our Gulf of Mexico sponges and unbleached varieties, visit our full sea sponge collection. Since each sponge grows naturally in the ocean, yours will vary in color, shape, and appearance from the photos ~ no two are exactly alike. If multiple sponges are ordered, they will be bundled together rather than individually wrapped.

Sponge care: Rinse completely after each use and air dry. Sponges have complex and delicate fibers, and must be handled with care. Never twist or pull the sponge, and do not rub too vigorously on the skin. Only use natural body washes and soaps with your sponge - synthetic fragrances, colorants, and other synthetic ingredients can damage your sponge's natural fibers and cause it to fall apart quickly. Gently squeeze the sponge to remove any excess water or soap, never wring or twist water and soap out. Twisting, pulling, or vigorously using the sponge will cause damage and tear the fibers, which will make the sponge fall apart. After each use, allow sponge to dry completely. Sponges will last much longer with proper care. Once they have reached the end of their life cycle, they can be easily composted instead of ending up in the landfill like synthetic alternatives.

Listing is for one sea bath sponge. Please note that sponges in photos are representative, and since each sponge naturally varies in color, shape, and size, the sponge that you receive will likely look different from the photos. If multiple sponges are ordered, they will be packaged in bundles (not individually wrapped). If you'd like each sponge to be individually wrapped for gift-giving or other needs, please let us know when you place your order so that we can package your order accordingly.
