UNBLEACHED "CHOCOLATE" NATURAL + SUSTAINABLE BATH SEA SPONGES - NEW!

These natural and sustainable bath sponges are unbleached, a gorgeous chocolatey hue, affordable, eco friendly, and so luxurious! 

These sponges are cut (not whole) and sustainably harvested from the Caribbean, making them less expensive than our Premium Whole Unbleached Chocolate Sea Sponges from the Gulf of Mexico. They are slightly more expensive than our cheapest sponge option, but they are more durable and environmentally friendly.

After being harvested from the ocean, sea sponges are traditionally bleached to a blonde or golden color for commercial reasons. However, the natural color of sponges is absolutely stunning ~ a beautiful array of tan and brown shades. Not only does bleaching alter the color of sponges, but it also impacts their quality since the sponge's delicate fibers and structure is weakened by the bleach. As a result, unbleached sponges are stronger, more durable, and (in our opinion) naturally more beautiful!

Since sponges are traditionally bleached for cosmetic reasons, we've custom ordered these gorgeous unbleached sponges directly from the harvesters, making them extra-special and something that you don't usually see. After harvest, these sponges are carefully set aside from the rest, circumventing normal processing methods. So, although it seems counterintuitive, unbleached sponges are actually more expensive since they have to be carefully processed differently from the majority being sold. But, when we found out that we could custom order these sponges, we were so excited to work with the harvesters in order to offer these to you!

These natural and sustainable bath sponges are so, so luxurious! Perfect for lightly exfoliating skin, cleansing dirt, sweat, impurities, pollutants, and dead skin cells for fresh, glowing skin. Plus, they contain natural minerals which are beneficial for the skin.

 Sustainably harvested from the Caribbean, these "grass" sponges are gentle enough to be used in the bath or shower daily, yet have the perfect amount of exfoliation.

Measured at their widest point, X-Large sponges are approximately 6-7 inches across, Large sponges approximately 5-6 inches, and Medium sized sponges approximately 4.5-5 inches. Heights can vary quite a bit from sponge to sponge, from approximately 2-6 inches. Please note that sponges are traditionally measured when wet, and expand in size once submerged in water.

Responsibly harvested and a naturally renewable resource, these sponges are hand-cut by divers to ensure that enough of the base remains intact so that the sponge can regrow. Studies show that areas harvested actually increase the population density of sponges. Sponges are biodegradable, and can be added to the compost once they've reached the end of their life-cycle.

Natural sea sponges are a renewable resource, and they are so much better for our environment than plastic poufs and bath accessories made from synthetic fibers. Not only do the plastic-derived products cause environmental pollution and consume a lot of natural resources to produce, but they have to be thrown away at the end of their lifecycle. Once in a landfill, they continue to break down and contribute to micro-plastic contamination in our soil, water sources, and oceans.

Since these sponges grow naturally in the sea, each sponge is unique in shape, size, and appearance. As you'll see in the photos, the sponges can vary quite a bit in appearance - no two are exactly the same!

Sponge care: Rinse completely after each use and air dry. Sponges have complex and delicate fibers, and must be handled with care. Never twist or pull the sponge, and do not rub too vigorously on the skin. Gently squeeze the sponge to remove any excess water or soap, never wring or twist water and soap out. Twisting, pulling, or vigorously using the sponge will cause damage and tear the fibers, which will make the sponge fall apart. After each use, allow sponge to dry completely. These sponges are durable and will last for many months with proper care. Once they have reached the end of their life cycle, they can be easily composted instead of ending up in the landfill like  synthetic alternatives.
